Japanese Dragon Tattoo Design by Greg James
The Japanese tattoo concept has been alive since the very early times. But in the earlier times the Japanese people used the tattoos for a very different purpose than in the modern times. Earlier the Japanese people did not think highly of tattooing their body as the tattoos were meant for criminals. Any body who was involved in a wrong doing was branded with a tattoo. The tattoo was meant for the lower class and not for the higher class. Over many years the new generation brought in new ideas that changed the old Japanese tattoo concept. With the so called modernization and westernization the Japanese began to identify tattoo as a means of body decoration. With the introduction of this concept the Japanese tattoo designs flourished and reached the western world as well where they are very popular. There is a wide range of Japanese tattoos and designs available these days.
One of the more popular Japanese tattoo design is the ‘Koi’ fish tattoo design. The Koi fish is a breed of fish that is found in a pond near every Japanese temple or shrine. This fish holds a deep religious meaning and tattooing it on the body brings lots of luck to the wearer. The fish is also considered to be very strong as it is the only fish that can swim back up stream opposite to the water current. This links this tattoo with good luck, strength and power. Another of the more popular Japanese tattoo design is the cherry blossoms tattoo designs. These designs are beautiful flowers. These flowers mark the Japanese New Year. The cherry blossoms signified the transiency of life and hence considered as a very strong symbol.
